The DM2100-EDD (Ethernet Demarcation Device) is a family of DATACOM switches designed to provide intelligent LAN / WAN demarcation services in the last mile of Metro Ethernet access networks. With the DM2100-EDD it is possible to monitor and control Ethernet and TDM services with OAM tools up to the CPE in order to ensure the SLA fulfillment throughout the network.
Wire Speed L2
The packet switching is performed at hardware level, reaching up to 24 Gbps and supporting jumbo frames.
Management
Centralized management is provided through DMView NMS over Windows™ or Solaris™ platforms, supporting FCAPS model and redundancy. The equipment also provides Command Line Interface (CLI) with automatic syntax help, which is accessible by either Telnet or Console RS-232. SNMPv1, v2c and v3 are supported.
When DM2100-EDD is connected to other Datacom switches like DM3000, DM4000 or DM4100 it is also possible to use remote management without assigning any IP address. Using this mode, the EDD is indirectly managed by DmView through the aggregation switch.
It is possible to keep up to 2 different configuration profiles on the equipment, choosing which one will be loaded during the equipment initialization.
DM2100-EDD also provide resources usage (memory and CPU) through CLI or SNMP commands.
Security
To guarantee the network security, DM2100-EDD family allows a reliable management structure through user authentication, authorization and accounting via RADIUS and TACACS+. It also supports alarms notifications, a unique clock via SNTP, protection against Denial of Service (DoS/DDoS) and Syslog (remote and local). DM2100-EDD switches also offer mechanisms of protection against broadcast, multicast and Destination Lookup Failure (DLF).
VLANs
Virtual LANs are fully supported on DM2100-EDD, allowing the usage of 4,094 VLANs simultaneously, according to IEEE 802.1q. Double tagging (Q-in-Q) is also supported, allowing the support of Transparent LAN Services(TLS).
TDM Circuit Emulation
Designed to meet the applications of legacy services convergence into packet networks, DM2100-EDD has versions which implement TDM Circuit Emulation over Ethernet (SAToP and CESoP).
The E1 electrical interfaces present on the equipment are emulated towards Ethernet networks through the use of pseudowires. It is supported both framed and unframed modes. TDM clock can be recovered through Adaptive Clock Recovery (ACR) mechanism.
QoS
The DM2100-EDD offers 4 queues per port, supporting advanced scheduling algorithms which can assure that determined flow is always prioritized accordingly. The equipment also allow the configuration of queue weights and the maximum allowed forwarding rate for all physical ports. The traffic classification is done according to IEEE 802.1p standard, IP Precedence field or DSCP. QoS statistics are also provided, allowing full network traffic visibility.
Ethernet OAM
The DM2100-EDD family supports OAM EFM according IEEE 802.3ah. This allows fault indication (including Dying Gasp), Unidirectional Link e Critical Event. EFM operates with configurable PDU intervals, keeping full interoperability with other equipment vendors.
Additionally this family also support OAM CFM according IEEE 802.1ag and ITU-T Y.1731. Proactive monitoring, continuity check messages and fault isolation through loopback and link trace messages are supported.
Protection mechanisms
Spanning Tree, including RSTP for shorter convergence times and MSTP for better resource allocation and improved scalability are fully supported, as well as EAPS and ERPS protocols for ring topologies. This allows DM2100-EDD to be part of Metro Ethernet scenarios supporting automatic protection switching and providing faster service restoration times.
Additionally Link Aggregation static and dynamic (LAG and LACP) are also supported.
Optical switch protection
DM2100-EDD family supports a controlled optical switching unit module capable of protecting links inside an optical ring, which bypasses the optical signal in the case of energy outage. The optical protection unit is sold as an optional accessory compatible with all DM2100-EDD products.
