Neutral networks are gaining more and more popularity in countries with developed and competitive telecommunications markets, such as the United States, United Kingdom, Spain, Sweden and the Netherlands. They offer a shared infrastructure for several operators, aiming at greater efficiency and cost reduction. In Brazil, the neutral network concept is still looking for space, driven by companies that want to expand connectivity in the country.
This new model in the telecommunications sector allows the sharing of the same infrastructure by several operators, potentially optimizing the distribution of internet services and making it more economical. The collaborative concept is attracting attention in the market, as companies explore innovative solutions to expand their services and improve the quality of their offerings. In this context, we highlight a successful case in which we collaborated with one of the main Neutral Network suppliers in Brazil.
In 2022, we were pleased to deliver a large-scale project for one of the largest Neutral Network providers in Brazil, whose end customer is a renowned telecommunications operator. The project involved more than 230 sites in different regions of the interior of the country, and our team had direct participation in the planning, design of the solution and implementation of the equipment, most of which were from the DATACOM brand.
Project Challenges and Requirements:
As the network would be used by a large operator to provide various services, several basic requirements were established to ensure delivery quality and efficiency. Among them, stand out:
Solution and Topology:
Based on the requirements presented, we developed a customized topology that met the customer's transport needs. In this solution, we employ encapsulation techniques to ensure the transparency of the customer's VLANs on the carrier's network, as well as the transparency of the transport VLAN on the customer's network.
We also use tunneling mechanisms to ensure transparent transport of Layer 2 protocol control packets sent from the customer's network through the carrier's network. In addition, we adopt security measures, such as authentication, access control lists and protection against excessive traffic, to protect the network and the equipment involved.
To prioritize service VLAN traffic without changing or deprioritizing the end customer, we implemented Quality of Service (QoS) strategies, allowing service and customer VLANs to have distinct QoS approaches applied on each segment of the end network .
