Use DMView as TR-069 ACS and manage CPEs remotely

By Luis Wolfarth - Application Engineer

Datacom recently launched the TR-069 ACS functionality in DMView, where you can read and configure the TR-069 CPE parameters on dedicated screens or with the use of templates that facilitate the configuration of standardized network services.

These settings can be made directly on the DMView web interface or with the use of NorthBound APIs that make it possible to apply templates by external tools (ERP software).

We compiled below some questions done frequently on the TR-069:

- What is TR-069?

Technical Report 069 (TR-069) is a protocol shown by Broadband Forum for Remote CPE Management through its WAN (CLWMP) WAN (CWMP]) interface.

It has been designed to enable a centralized and uniform configuration of equipment and services independent of the model and CPE manufacturer. Allows the provider to configure CPE without subscriber intervention.

Uses bidirectional HTTP / https communication with the use of Simple Object Access Protocol envelopes that upload Extensive Markup Language (XML) structure.

- Why use it?

The TR-069 through centralized management allows scalability, simplicity and interoperability between CPE and ACS of different manufacturers. Its use does not depend on implementation on the equipment that provides the CPE connectivity that in the case of GPON applications is OLT. Its use depends only on IP communication between ACS and CPEs that support the protocol. With the TR-069 you can configure virtually all CPE support parameters as well as sending configuration files and perform firmware updates, all massively.

- Which equipment can be configured?

CPEs can be ONUs GPON and WiFi routers or other devices. Datacom currently provides the following models with protocol support:

ONU DM985-424 - GPON B +, 4 LAN, 2 VOICE FXS, WIFI 802.11 A / B / G / N / AC Dual Band 2.4GHz and 5GHz

ONU DM985-102 - GPON B +, 1 LAN, WIFI 802.11 B / G / N 2.4GHZ

ONU DM986-414 - GPON B +, 4 LAN, WIFI 802.11 A / B / G / N / AC Dual Band 2.4GHz and 5GHz

ONU DM986-100 - GPON B +, 1 LAN

ONU DM986-204 - GPON B +, 2 LAN, WIFI 802.11 A / B / G / N / AC Dual Band 2.4GHz and 5GHz

WiFi Router DM955 - 1 WAN, 4 LAN, WIFI 802.11 A / B / G / N / AC Dual Band 2.4GHz and 5GHz

WiFi Router DM955M - 1 WAN, 4 LAN, Mesh WiFi 802.11 A / B / G / N / AC Dual Band 2.4GHz and 5GHz

ONUs and residential wifi routers that are launched in the future will also support the TR-069.

- How to use DATACOM products TR-069?

As the protocol is normatized it is possible to use any CPE, which supported the TR-069 with any ACS available in the market. In this way, DmView, Datacom management software, can be used as ACS of the Datacom or other manufacturers CPEs.

- How many CPEs can I manage with DmView for free?

The DmView Enterprise Lite allows you to manage up to 2000 Datacom CPEs and up to 100 Multinendor CPEs (not Datacom). You can manage more CPEs of Licensing.
