Sales of OCP – Open Compute Project servers are skyrocketing as the number and variety of organizations adopting this high-performance technology in their datacenters increases.
A study by research firm Omdia estimates the Open Compute Project (OCP) hardware market will grow 34% this year, from $16.1 billion in revenue in 2020 to $21.7 billion in 2021. that over the next four years, the market will more than double, reaching $46 billion in revenue by 2025.

With that, the founding members of the initiative created a movement in the hardware development market, which brought the creativity and collaboration of the main players. OCP applies open source software concepts to the hardware space. To date, more than 280 companies have joined the collaborative effort to develop open, efficient, and scalable data center hardware designs.

According to Vlad Galabov, research director and study co-author, over the next four years, smaller cloud providers, telcos (ISPs) and enterprises will increasingly adopt OCP-engineered data center hardware.
“OCP has made impressive strides,” Galabov told Data Center Knowledge in an interview. “What's interesting is that it's not just the companies that started [OCP] that are buying. Our expectation for 2025 is that there will be many cloud service providers, communication service providers and other companies buying. ”
