With the internet market increasingly competitive, the use of high-performance equipment at an affordable cost is very important for ISPs to maintain business profitability. Seeking to bring alternatives for the most diverse applications of our customers, Datacom is launching in the market the new ONU Wi-Fi AC1200, the DM986-204.
The ONU GPON DM986 – 204 is focused on residential applications where there is a demand for compact equipment with large Wi-Fi transmission capacity. It offers a high-speed fiber optic access solution supporting two (02) Gigabit Ethernet LAN interfaces and also supports 2.4GHz and 5.8Ghz Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g/n/ac).
This Wi-Fi interface is designed to support applications that require high data traffic. Four external high-gain antennas (two for 2.4GHz and two for 5GHz) mounted on two poles provide excellent coverage, which together with 2x2 MIMO and 5GHz Beamforming create a fast and stable Wi-Fi connection.
The DM986 – 204 GPON ONU together with the DATACOM OLTs (DM4610, DM4611, DM4612 and DM4615), offers a competitive high performance solution for FTTH networks. A great advantage of all Datacom ONUs is that they are unlocked to work in OLTs from other manufacturers.
The ONU also has a remote management resource through the TR-069 protocol. With this feature, the ISP can manage all the devices installed on its subscribers through the cloud. The management by TR-069 allows the ISP to carry out diagnostics and tests remotely, reducing operational costs. It is possible to configure virtually all configuration parameters supported by the CPE as well as send configuration files and perform firmware updates, all in a massive way. Learn more about this protocol in the article “Use DmView as TR-069 ACS and manage CPEs remotely”
On the front of the DM986-204 we have LEDs indicating the following status: Power, PON, LOS, INTERNET, 2.4Ghz, 5Ghz, LAN1, LAN2 and WPS.
On the rear panel, we have the following physical connections looking from left to right: WLAN, PON, LAN2, LAN1, WPS, RESET, Power in, Power button
The most usual application scenario for this equipment is the delivery of the internet link through GPON with and the distribution to the local network through Ethernet ports 1 and 2 and Wi-Fi 2.5Ghz and 5Ghz interface.
Throughput Test
The WiFi interface Throughput test aims to verify the maximum data rate that the CPE can forward. To reach an environment with less interference, the CPEs were configured with the following parameters:
- Channel Bandwidth: 40 MHz at 2.4 GHz frequency and 80 MHz at 5.8 GHz frequency.
- Channel: Specific channel without interference from other Wi-Fi networks.
The achieved rate is always reported in Mbps [Mega bits per second] and always in the DOWNLOAD sense.
The topology used in the test was as follows:
630Mbits/s were obtained at 5.8Ghz and 130Mbits/s at 2.4Ghz. The download results can be seen in the chart below:
