Launch Router Wi-Fi6 DM956 5GT AX1800

By Guilherme Salvadori – Product Engineer

In order to be able to deliver plans above 600Mb, the ISP needs equipment that supports high speed Wi-Fi connection, when using the new Wi-Fi 6 technology standard this becomes a reality.

With a focus on high performance, Wi-Fi 6 AX1800 allows the delivery of a rate of up to 1201Mbps in 5.8Ghz, but the biggest attraction, which is often not mentioned with relevance, is the possibility of a leap in capacity to 2.4Ghz, delivering up to 574Mbps.

In practice, this means that with Wi-Fi 6 we have greater capacity being close to the router (connected at 5.8Ghz) and we also have an excellent band even farther from the router, being connected at 2.4Ghz. In previous versions, the bandwidth available for 2.4Ghz was much lower, which ended up bringing a less performant user experience.

This great advance in terms of throughput is due to the use of 1024-QAM modulation, whereas the previous version, 802.11ac, uses 256 QAM. This new technique allows each symbol to carry 10 bits instead of 8, thus allowing a 25% increase in transmission capacity compared to the previous standard.

The 802.11ax standard is fully backward compatible with previous versions of Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g/n/ac, allowing seamless integration with older devices. It is worth mentioning that to enjoy the performance increases that Wi-Fi 6 provides, it is necessary that the end device also has the 802.11ax protocol.

In Wi-Fi 5, the technology used is OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing), which has low efficiency in scenarios with a high density of devices, as it transmits packets by dividing them into specific timeframes, and delivery is performed individually for each device in your designated time slot.

In Wi-Fi 6, the OFDMA (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access) technology was introduced, which is an evolution of OFDM, enabling the division of the spectrum into multiple units, allowing devices to share the transmission stream, increasing efficiency, reducing congestion and the latency. Together with the 2x2 MU-MIMO functionality, it ensures that all connected devices get access to data faster and simultaneously, making the user's connectivity experience much more efficient than traditional wireless networks

Aiming to expand the solutions of our portfolio of Wi-Fi routers, Datacom launched in October/22 the new router DM956 5GT AX1800, which has Wi-Fi6 technology (802.11ax).

The DM956 5GT AX1800 router is a compact solution that offers high transmission capacity over cable and Wi-Fi. It has four (04) Gigabit Ethernet LAN interfaces, one (01) Gigabit Ethernet WAN interface and supports 2.4GHz and 5.8Ghz Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g/n/ac/ax).

Datacom's new router has four external antennas that emit Wi-Fi signals to all end customer environments, with a gain of 5dBi each. With the high signal quality, it is possible to eliminate shadow zones from the environment and keeps the user connected by taking advantage of fast Wi-Fi access in any room of your home or office.

By 2023 the DM956 will also support the mesh network solution through the Easymesh standard, expanding the network coverage. In this solution, the DM956 routers connect and distribute the signal forming a single network, providing a quality signal in places with poor signal quality.

The router also has a remote management feature through the TR-069 protocol. With this resource, the ISP can manage all the devices installed in its subscribers through the cloud. Management by the TR-069 enables the ISP to perform remote diagnostics and tests, reducing operating costs. It is possible to configure practically all the configuration parameters supported by the CPE as well as send configuration files and carry out firmware updates, all in a massive way. Learn more about this protocol in the article “Use DmView as TR-069 ACS and manage CPEs remotely”

On the front of the DM956 we have the LEDs indicating the following statuses: Power, WAN, LAN1-4, 2.4Ghz, 5Ghz and WPS:

On the rear panel, we have the following physical connections looking from left to right: WPS, WAN, LAN1-4, Reset, Power Switch and Power input.

The most common application scenario for this equipment is the distribution of the network signal through the Ethernet ports (cable) and/or Wi-Fi:

In addition to the Wi-Fi router presented, Datacom has a large portfolio of Ethernet Switches, GPON, Routers, Servers, Network Management, among others.
